Ibn Abi Umar told us, Sufyan bin Uyaynah told us, on the authority of Abu Ishaq Al-Hamdani, on the authority of Al-Bara’ bin Azib, that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said to him “Shall I not teach you words that you should say when you go to bed? If you die that night, you will die according to fitrah, and if you die in the morning, In the morning, and you have achieved goodness, you say, O God, I have surrendered myself to You, and I have turned my face to You, and I have entrusted my affairs to You, out of desire and awe for You. And I have turned my back to You, with no refuge or refuge from You except in You. I have believed in Your Book which You have sent down and in Your Prophet whom You have sent. Al-Baraa said, so I said, “By your Messenger whom you have sent.” He stabbed me with his hand in the chest and then said, “By your Prophet whom you have sent.” Abu Issa said: This is a hasan, authentic, and strange hadith that was narrated in more than one way, on the authority of Al-Baraa. And Mansour bin Al-Mu’tamir narrated it on the authority of Saad bin Ubaidah, on the authority of Al-Bara, on the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, is similar, except that he said, “If you go to bed while you are performing ablution.” He said, and in the chapter on Rafi’ bin Khadij, may God be pleased with him
