Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #27272

Al-Hasan bin Ali Al-Khalal told us, Ishaq bin Issa and Abdullah bin Nafi’ Al-Sayegh told us, they said Malik bin Anas told us, on the authority of Abu Hazim bin Dinar, on the authority of Sahl bin Saad Al-Sa’idi, that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, a woman came to him and said, “I give myself to you.” She stood for a long time, and a man said, “O Messenger of God, marry her to me if you have no need of her.” He said, “Do you have anything?” You believe her.” He said, “I have nothing but this garment of mine.” Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “If you give her your garment, she will sit and you do not have a garment.” So seek “Something.” He said, “I cannot find anything.” He said, “So he searched, even if it was an iron ring.” He said, “So he searched but did not find anything.” Then the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said. Do you have anything from the Qur’an?” He said, “Yes, Surah such-and-such and Surah that-and-so.” For a surah he named, so the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said. I married her to you according to what you know of the Qur’an.” Abu Issa said: This is a good and authentic hadith. Al-Shafi’i considered this hadith So he said: If he has nothing to do with her and he marries her based on a surah from the Qur’an, then the marriage is permissible and he teaches her a surah from the Qur’an. Some said Welcome Knowing that marriage is permissible and gives her a dowry like her. This is the saying of the people of Kufa, Ahmad and Ishaq.
