Ishaq bin Mansour told us, Yahya bin Saeed Al-Qattan told us, on the authority of Ubayd Allah bin Omar, on the authority of Nafi’, on the authority of Ibn Omar, on the authority of Omar, he said I said, O Messenger of God, that I had vowed to seclude a night in the Sacred Mosque in pre-Islamic times. He said, “Fulfill your vow.” He said, and on the authority of Abdullah bin Amr and Ibn Abbas. Abu Issa said the hadith of Omar is a good and authentic hadith. Some have said The people of knowledge regarding this hadith said: If a man converts to Islam and he owes a vow of obedience, then he should fulfill it. Some of the people of knowledge among the companions of The Prophet prayed God, peace and blessings of God be upon him and others, said: There is no i'tikaf except with fasting. Others among the people of knowledge said: The person in i'tikaf does not have to fast unless he makes it obligatory for himself. Fasting. They used as evidence the hadith of Omar, in which he vowed to seclude a night in pre-Islamic times, so the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, ordered him to fulfill it. This is the saying of Ahmad and Ishaq.
