Hadith #27696
Qutaibah told us, Abdul Aziz bin Muhammad told us, on the authority of Al-Ala’ bin Abdul Rahman, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Abu Hurairah, he said: The Messenger said: God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, “Do not make a vow, for a vow does not avail the decree at all, but it only takes away from the miserly by it.” He said, and in Chapter on the authority of Ibn Umar. Abu Issa said the hadith of Abu Hurairah is a hasan hadith. This is acted upon according to some of the scholars among the companions of The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and others disliked vows. Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak said: The meaning of dislike in vows is in obedience. As for disobedience, if a man vows to obey and fulfills it, he will have a reward for it, but the vow is disliked for him.
