Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #28337

Hanad narrated to us, Abu Muawiyah narrated to us, on the authority of Al-Amash, on the authority of Zayd bin Wahb, on the authority of Hudhayfah bin Al-Yaman, the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, narrated to us Two hadiths: I saw one of them while I was waiting for the other. He told us: “Trustfulness was revealed at the root of the hearts of men, then the Qur’an was revealed.” So they learned from the Qur’an and they learned from the Sunnah.” Then he spoke to us about withdrawing the trust, and he said, “A man sleeps and the trust is taken from him.” His heart, and its trace remains like a scotch, then he sleeps soundly, and the trust is taken from his heart, and its trace remains like a boil, like embers. “You rolled it on your foot and it dripped and you saw it spread out and there was nothing in it.” Then he took a pebble and rolled it on his foot, saying, “So in the morning People pledge allegiance, and hardly any of them fulfills the trust until it is said that among the children of so-and-so there is a trustworthy man, and until it is said to the man, “What a flogging he has done.” He is the most gentle and wisest of all, and there is no faith in his heart as much as a mustard seed.” He said, “A time has come upon me, and I do not care which of you I have pledged allegiance to.” In it, if he is a Muslim, he will return it to his religion, and if he is a Jew or Christian, he will return it to his seeker. As for today I would not pledge allegiance among you except to so-and-so and so-and-so. Abu Issa said: This is a good and authentic hadith.
