Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #28451

Al-Hussein bin Muhammad told us, Abdul Razzaq told us, Muammar told us, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, on the authority of Ubayd Allah bin Abdullah, on the authority of Ibn Abbas, He said: Abu Hurairah was narrating that a man came to the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, and said: “Tonight I saw a shade from which he was blowing water.” Ghee and honey, and I saw people drawing water with their hands, the plentiful and the independent, and I saw a stream reaching from the sky to the earth, and I see you, O Messenger By God, you took it and did it, then a man after you took it and did it, then a man after him took it and did it, then a man took it. So it was cut off, then it was connected to him, and they did it. Then Abu Bakr, meaning the Messenger of God, said, “By God, by God, by God, by God, by my father and my mother, you will not let me cross it.” He said “Cross it.” He said, “As for the canopy, it is the canopy of Islam. As for what oozes out of ghee and honey, it is the Qur’an, its softness and sweetness.” The one who amplifies and is independent is the one who amplifies the Qur’an and is independent of it, and as for the cause that connects from heaven to earth, it is the Truth that You followed it, so God exalted you, then another man followed it after you, and he exalted it, then a man after him followed it. Another man, and he rises with it, then he takes another man, and he is cut off with him, then it is connected to him, and he rises. Meaning, Messenger of God, tell me whether I am right or wrong. Then the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “You got some of it right and some of it wrong.” He said, “I swear by my father and my mother that you will tell me what I did wrong.” The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “Do not swear.” He said, “This is a good and authentic hadith.”
