Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29145

Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman told us, Ubayd Allah bin Musa told us, on the authority of Israel, on the authority of Al-Suddi, on the authority of Abu Malik, on the authority of Al-Bara’: (And do not spend on the evil from it.) He said: This revelation was revealed concerning us, the Ansar: “We were the owners of palm trees, and a man used to come from his palm trees.” No matter how much or how little it was, and the man would bring the qanwain and the qanwain and hang them in the mosque, and the people of Suffah had no food. So, when one of them was hungry, he would come to the quencher and hit him with his stick, and he would drop some whole grains and dates, and he would eat. And there were some people who did not want to eat. Goodness comes to a man with the strength, in which are the vermin and the gnats, and with the strength it is broken and he hangs it up, so God Almighty revealed: (O you who have believed Spend from the good things you have earned and from what We have brought out for you from the land, and do not complete the evil from it. You will spend while you are not I will take it unless you close your eyes to it.) They say, “If one of you were given as a gift something like what he was given, he would not take it except with a closed mind and modesty.” He said, “After that, one of us used to bring what was good to us.” Abu Issa said, “This is a good, strange, and authentic hadith, and Abu Malik is the Al-Ghafari, it is said His name is Ghazwan, and Sufyan narrated something about this on the authority of Al-Suddi.
