Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29234

Then He will show them to Adam, and he will say, “O my Lord, who are these?” He said, “These are Your offspring. Then he saw a man from among them, and he admired him, and a gleam appeared between his eyes, and he said, “O Lord, who is this?” So he said, “This is a man from the last of the nations, from Your descendants will be called David. He said, “O Lord, how long have you made his lifespan?” He said, “Sixty years.” He said, “O Lord, give him forty years more from my life.” When the end During the lifetime of Adam, the angel of death came to him and said, “Are there forty years left of my life?” He said, “Did you not give it to your son David?” He said, but Adam denied it. So his descendants denied, and Adam forgot, and his descendants forgot, and Adam sinned, and his descendants sinned.” Abu Issa said: This is a good hadith. Sahih.
