Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29261

Muhammad bin Bashar narrated to us, Abd al-Rahman bin Mahdi narrated to us, Ibrahim bin Saad narrated to us, on the authority of al-Zuhri, on the authority of Ubaid bin al-Sabbaq, that Zaid bin Thabit told him, he said: Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq sent to me the killing of the people of Al-Yamamah, and then Omar bin Al-Khattab was with him, and he said Omar Ibn Al-Khattab came to me and said that killing had become a crime when the Qur’an was recited on the Day of Al-Yamamah, and I fear that murder would become a crime. By reciting people in all countries, then much of the Qur’an will be recited. And I think that you should order the collection of the Qur’an. Abu Bakr said to Omar: How? I am doing something that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, did not do. Omar said, “By God, it is good.” He continued to check with me about that until God explained my heart to the one to whom it was explained. Omar was released, and I saw in it what he saw. Zaid said. Abu Bakr said, “You are a sensible young man. We do not accuse you. You used to write.” The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, received a revelation, so he followed the Qur’an. He said, “By God, if they had assigned me to move one of the mountains, it would not have been heavier for me than that.” He said, I said, “How can you do something that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, did not do?” Abu Bakr said, “By God, it is good.” And he continued. Abu Bakr and Omar consulted me about that until God opened my heart to the one whose heart opened the heart of Abu Bakr and Omar, so I traced the Qur’an, collecting it from the pieces of paper. And the grass and the wood mean the thin stones and the chests of men. I found the last Surah Bara’ah with Khuzaymah ibn Thabit: (There has come to you a messenger from among yourselves, dear to him is what you have troubled. He is anxious for you towards the believers, Compassionate and Merciful. * But if they turn away, then say: My suffices Allah, there is no god but Him. In Him I put my trust, and He is the Lord of the Great Throne.) Abu Issa said: This is a good and authentic hadith.
