Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29260

Abdul bin Humaid told us, Abdul Razzaq told us, Muammar told us, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, on the authority of Abdul Rahman bin Ka’b bin Malik, on the authority of His father, he said, “I did not lag behind the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, in a battle that he launched until the Battle of Tabuk took place only at Badr, and he did not blame the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace.” May God bless him and grant him peace. Someone failed to attend Badr. He only went out seeking caravan, so the Quraysh came out to relieve their caravan, but they met without a promise, as God Almighty said. Glory be to Him, for my life, the most honorable sight of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, among people is at Badr, and I would not like to have witnessed it in that place. I pledged my allegiance on the night of Aqaba, when we agreed upon Islam, and then I did not abandon the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, until the Battle of Tabuk, which was the last battle. He invaded it and the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, gave permission for their departure. He mentioned the length of the hadith, saying, “So I went to the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him.” He said the salutation, and suddenly he was sitting in the mosque and the Muslims were around him, and he was illuminated like the illumination of the moon. Whenever he was pleased with the matter, he was illuminated, so I came. So I sat in front of him, and he said, “Give good tidings, O Ka’b Ibn Malik, of a good day that has come upon you since your mother gave birth to you.” So I said, O Prophet of God. Is it from God or from you? He said, “Rather, from God.” Then he recited these verses: (Indeed, God has turned to the Prophet. And the Muhajireen and the Ansar who followed him in the hour of hardship (until it reached Allah. He is the Forgiving, the Merciful) He said, “And among us was it revealed.” Also: (Fear God and be with the truthful) He said, “O Prophet of God, part of my repentance is that I will not speak anything except the truth and that I will renounce All of my wealth is in charity to God and to His Messenger. Then the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “Keep some of your wealth on you, for it will be better for you.” So I said, “I will hold back my arrow that was in Khaybar.” He said, “There has not been a blessing that God has bestowed upon me after Islam greater in my soul than the truthfulness of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace.” And peace be upon him, when I believed him, I and my companions were not lying, for we perished as they perished, and I hope that God will not be more afflicted with anyone. As for the truth, I have never told a lie yet, and I hope that God will protect me in what remains. He said, and it was narrated on the authority of Al-Zuhri. This hadith is contrary to this chain of transmission, and it was said on the authority of Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah bin Kaab bin Malik, on the authority of his uncle Ubaid Allah, on the authority of Ka'b, and it has been said other than this, and Yunus bin Yazid narrated this hadith on the authority of Al-Zuhri, on the authority of Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah bin Ka'b bin Malik said that his father told him on the authority of Ka'b bin Malik.
