Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29424

Muhammad bin Al-Muthanna narrated to us, Muammel bin Ismail narrated to us, Nafi’ bin Omar bin Jamil Al-Jumahi narrated to us, Ibn Abi Mulaika narrated to me, Abdullah bin Al-Zubayr told me that Al-Aqra’ bin Habis came to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and Abu Bakr said, O Messenger of God Use it on his people. Omar said: Do not use it, O Messenger of God. So they spoke in the presence of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, until their voices rose, and he said Abu Bakr told Omar, “I only wanted to disagree with me.” Omar said, “I did not want to be different from you.” He said, “So this verse was revealed: (O you! Those who have believed, do not raise your voices above the voice of the Prophet.) After that, when Omar ibn al-Khattab spoke in the presence of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, he would not listen. His words until he understood him. He said, Ibn al-Zubayr did not mention his grandfather, meaning Abu Bakr. Abu Issa said: This is a good hadith. Strange. Some of them narrated on the authority of Ibn Abi Mulaika in a mursal form, but they did not mention Abdullah bin Al-Zubayr in it.
