Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29817

Muhammad ibn Abd al-Malik ibn Abi al-Shawareb told us, he said, Abu Awanah told us, on the authority of Abd al-Malik ibn Umair, on the authority of Ibn Abi Al-Mu’alla, on the authority of his father, said that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, delivered a sermon one day and said, “Indeed, a man was given a choice by his Lord between living in this world as long as he wanted.” He lives and eats in this world whatever he wants to eat and comes between meeting his Lord, so he chooses to meet his Lord.” He said, then Abu Bakr cried, and his companions said The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, do you not marvel at this sheikh when the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, mentioned a righteous man whose Lord had given him the choice between this world? And between meeting his Lord, he chose to meet his Lord. He said: Abu Bakr was the most knowledgeable of them about what the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, so Abu Bakr said: Rather We sacrifice for you our fathers and our wealth. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “There is no one among the people who has believed in us in his company or in his possession.” Ibn Abi Quhafa, and if I had taken Ibn Abi Quhafa as a friend, I would have taken Ibn Abi Quhafa as a friend, but friendliness and brotherhood in faith, friendliness and brotherhood in faith, twice. Or three, and indeed your companion is the friend of God.” This hadith was narrated on the authority of Abu Awanah on the authority of Abd al-Malik ibn Umair with a chain of transmission other than This. The meaning of his saying, “He is safe for us,” means he is safe for us. And on the authority of Abu Sa’id, this is a good and strange hadith.
