Sunan ad-Darimi — Hadith #54102

Abu Nu`aym told us, Abd al-Rahman told us, he is Ibn al-Nu`man al-Ansari, Sa`d bin Ishaq bin Ka`b bin Ujrah told me. Al-Ansari, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Ka’b, said: The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, came out against us while we were in the mosque, seven of them: three of us. Of our Arabs and four of our loyalists, or four of our Arabs and three of our loyalists. He said: Then the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, revolted against us. He moved his lap until he sat down to us, and said: “Why are you sitting here?” We said: Waiting for prayer. He said: So he poked his finger in the the ground, and lay down for an hour. Then he raised his head to us and said: “Do you know what your Lord says?” He said: We said: God and His Messenger know best. He said: He says: “Whoever prays the prayer At that time, he established its punishment, and he had a covenant with me whereby I would admit him to Paradise, and whoever did not perform the prayer At that time, and he did not perform its punishment, he had no covenant with me. If I wished, I could make him enter Hell, and if I wished, I could make him enter Paradise.”
