Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #27042

Muhammad bin Abdul-Ala al-Sana'ani al-Basri told us, Muhammad bin Abdul-Rahman al-Taffawi told us, Hisham bin Urwa told us, on the authority of His father, on the authority of Aisha, she said: The Quraysh and those who followed their religion, and they were the people, were standing in Muzdalifah, saying, “We are the cotton of God.” And those other than them were standing at Arafat, so God Almighty revealed: (Then disperse from where the people dispersed.) Abu Issa said this. A hasan and authentic hadith. He said, “The meaning of this hadith is that the people of Mecca did not leave the Sacred Mosque, while Arafat was outside the Sacred Mosque, and the people of Mecca They were standing in Muzdalifah and saying, “We are the cotton of God,” meaning the inhabitants of God, and everyone else except the people of Mecca were standing in Arafat. So he descended. God Almighty: (Then they dispersed from where the people dispersed.) And the Hums are the people of the Sanctuary.
