Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #28542

Muhammad bin Al-Muthanna told us, Abu Dawud told us, Abu Sinan Al-Shaybani told us, on the authority of Habib bin Abi Thabit, on the authority of Abu Salih, on the authority of Abu Hurairah, he said: A man said, O Messenger of God, a man does work and it pleases him, and when he looks at it he likes it. It was narrated by Al-A’mash and others. When he hopes that people will praise him, but if he likes it so that people will know goodness from him and that he will be honored for that and glorified for that, then this is hypocrisy.
