Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #28811

Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman told us, Abdullah bin Salih told us, Muawiyah bin Salih told me, on the authority of Abdul Rahman bin Jubayr. Bin Nufayr, on the authority of his father, Jubayr bin Nufayr, on the authority of Abu al-Darda’, he said: We were with the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, and he looked up at the sky. Then he said, “This is the time for knowledge to be stolen from people until they are not able to do anything with it.” Ziyad bin Labid Al-Ansari said, “How can it be stolen?” We have read the Qur’an. By God, we will read it and we will make it read to our women and children. He said, “May your mother be bereaved of you, O Ziyad.” “If I were to count to you as one of the jurists of the people of Medina, this is the Torah and the Gospel according to the Jews and Christians, what will it be of use to them?” He said. Jubair, so I met Ubadah ibn al-Samit and said, “Don’t you listen to what your brother Abu al-Darda’ says?” So I told him what Abu al-Darda’ said. He said Abu Al-Darda’ is right. If you wish, I will tell you about the first knowledge that will be raised from people. Humility. You are about to enter a congregational mosque and you will not see a man in it. Humbled. Abu Issa said: This is a good and strange hadith. Muawiyah bin Salih is trustworthy according to the people of hadith, and we do not know of anyone who spoke about it. Other than Yahya bin Saeed Al-Qattan, something like this was narrated on the authority of Muawiyah bin Salih. Some of them narrated this hadith on the authority of Abd Al-Rahman bin Jubayr bin Nufayr, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Awf bin Malik, on the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace.
