Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29190

Al-Hasan bin Muhammad Al-Zaafrani told us, Al-Hajjaj bin Muhammad told us, on the authority of Ibn Jurayj, Abd al-Karim told me, he heard Maqsam, servant of Abd Allah Ibn Al-Harith narrates on the authority of Ibn Abbas, that he said: (Not equal are those who sit among the believers, other than those in need. On the authority of Badr and those who went to Badr, when the Battle of Badr came, Abdullah bin Jahsh and Ibn Umm Maktum said, “We are blind, O Messenger.” By God, is there a license for us? Then it was revealed: (Not equal are those who sit among the believers, except those who are deprived of harm.) And: (God has favored The mujahideen are in a degree superior to those who are sitting. These are those who are sitting, and are not deserving of harm. (And God has favored the mujahideen over those sitting, a great reward.) Degrees of it apply to those who sit among the believers and are not deserving of harm. Abu Issa said: This is a strange hadith from this perspective.
