Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29193

Mahmoud bin Ghaylan narrated to us, Abd al-Samad bin Abd al-Warith narrated to us, Saeed bin Ubaid al-Hinai narrated to us, Abdullah bin Shaqiq narrated to us, Abu Hurairah told us that the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, camped between Dajnan and Usfan, and the polytheists said, “These people have a prayer service.” It is more beloved to them than their fathers and their children, and it is the afternoon prayer, so gather yourselves and incline toward them with one inclination. Indeed, Gabriel came to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace. So he ordered him to divide his companions into two parts and lead them in prayer, and for another group to stand up behind them and for them to be careful. And their weapons. Then the others will come and pray one rak’ah with him. Then these people will take their protection and weapons, and they will be theirs. One rak'ah is a rak'ah, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, has two rak'ahs.
