Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29373

Abd bin Humayd told us, Ruh told us, on the authority of Abd al-Hamid bin Bahram, on the authority of Shahr bin Hawshab, he said Ibn Abbas, may God be pleased with them both, said The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, forbade all types of women, except for those who were believing female immigrants. He said: (Women are not permissible for you after that.) And do not exchange wives for them, even if their beauty pleases you, except what your right hand possesses.) So God has made lawful for your believing girls and women. A believer if she gave herself to the Prophet, and he forbade every person with a religion other than Islam. Then he said: (And whoever disbelieves in faith, his work has been vain. And in the Hereafter, he will be among the losers.) And he said: (O Prophet, indeed We have made lawful for you your wives to whom you have received their reward and whom your right hand possesses. Of what God has bestowed upon you) to his saying: (Solely for you rather than the believers) and he forbade all other types of women. Abu Issa said: This is a good hadith. We only know it from the hadith of Abd al-Hamid bin Bahram. He said: I heard Ahmad bin al-Hasan say: Ahmad ibn Hanbal: There is nothing wrong with the hadith of Abd al-Hamid ibn Bahram on the authority of Shahr ibn Hawshab.
