Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29596

Muhammad bin Omar bin Ali Al-Muqaddami told us, Ibn Abi Adi told us, on the authority of Shu’bah, on the authority of Abdullah bin Bishr Al-Khathami, on the authority of Abu Zar’ah, on the authority of Abu Hurairah, who said: Whenever the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, traveled and mounted his mount, he would say with his finger and Shu’bah extended his finger. He said, “O God, you are the companion on the journey and the successor to the family. O God, accompany us with your advice and keep us under your covenant. O God, I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travel and the depression of a turning point.” Abu Issa said, “I did not know.” This is except from the hadith of Ibn Abi Adi until Suwayd narrated it to me. Suwayd bin Nasr narrated to us, Abdullah bin Al-Mubarak narrated to us, he narrated to us Shu’bah, with this chain of transmission, is similar to it in its meaning.
