Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29685

Mahmoud bin Ghaylan narrated to us, Waki’ narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, on the authority of Al-Jariri, on the authority of Abu Al-Ward, on the authority of Al-Lajlaj, on the authority of Muadh bin Jabal, he said The Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, heard a man praying and saying, “O God, I ask you for the perfect blessing.” He said, “Anything is the perfect blessing.” He said, “A supplication I made, hoping for goodness.” He said, “For among the completion of a blessing is entering Paradise and escaping from Hell.” And he heard a man saying, O Possessor of Glory and Honor, and he said, “I have answered you, so ask.” And the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, heard a man saying Oh God, I ask you for patience. He said, “I asked God for affliction, so ask him for well-being.” Ahmad bin Mani’ told us, Ismail told us. Ibn Ibrahim, on the authority of Al-Jariri, with this chain of transmission similar to it. Abu Issa said this is a hasan hadith.
