Ali bin Hajar told us, Issa bin Yunus told us, on the authority of Hisham bin Hassan, on the authority of Muhammad bin Sirin, on the authority of Abu Hurairah, that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said “Whoever is overcome by vomiting does not have to make up for it, but whoever vomits intentionally must make up for it.” He said, and in the chapter on the authority of Abu al-Darda’ And Thuban and Fadalah bin Ubaid. Abu Issa said: The hadith of Abu Hurairah is a good, strange hadith that we do not know from the hadith of Hisham on the authority of Ibn Sirin. On the authority of Abu Hurairah, on the authority of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, except for the hadith of Isa bin Yunus. Muhammad said, “I do not see it as preserved.” Abu Isa said: This hadith was narrated from more than one source, on the authority of Abu Hurairah, on the authority of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, and its chain of narration is not authentic. It was narrated on the authority of Abu al-Darda’. And Thawban and Fadalah bin Ubaid said that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, vomited and broke his fast. What this means is that the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, was fasting. Voluntarily, he stood up and became weak, so he broke his fast. This is how it was narrated in some hadith with explanation. And according to the people of knowledge, action is based on the hadith of Abu Huraira, on the authority of the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, that if a fasting person is overcome by vomiting, then he does not have to make up for it, but if he vomits intentionally, then he must make up for it. And with it he says: Sufyan Al-Thawri, Al-Shafi’i, Ahmad, and Ishaq.
