Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29130

Abd bin Humaid told us, Al-Dahhak bin Mukhlid Abu Asim Al-Nabil told us, on the authority of Haywa bin Shurayh, on the authority of Yazid bin Abi Habib, on the authority of Abu Imran al-Tajibi converted to Islam. He said, “We were in the city of the Romans, and they brought out to us a large column of Romans, and some Muslims came out to them.” The same or more of them, and over the people of Egypt was Uqba bin Amir, and over the group was Fadhalah bin Ubaid. Then a man from among the Muslims took charge against the Romans’ ranks. Until he entered among them, and the people shouted and said, Glory be to God. He is throwing himself into destruction with his own hands. Then Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari stood up and said, “Oh! O people, you are interpreting this verse this way, but this verse was only revealed about us, the Ansar, when God made Islam great. His supporters increased, and some of us said to one another privately, rather than to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, “Our money has been lost, and God has given us strength.” Islam and its supporters increased, so if we were careful with our wealth and repaired what was lost, then God revealed to His Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, to restore to us what was lost. We said: (And spend in the cause of God, and do not throw yourselves into destruction with your own hands.) So the destruction was residence on The money and its reform, and we abandoned the invasion, and Abu Ayoub continued to watch for the sake of God until he was buried in the land of the Romans.
