Jami' at-Tirmidhi — Hadith #29463

Ibn Abi Umar told us, Sufyan told us, on the authority of Amr bin Dinar, on the authority of Al-Hasan bin Muhammad, he is Ibn al-Hanafiyyah, on the authority of Ubayd Allah bin Abi Rafi’, he said, I heard Ali bin Abi Talib saying that the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, sent me, Al-Zubayr, and Al-Miqdad bin Al-Aswad, and he said “Go until you come to Rawdat Khakh, for there is a woman there, who has a book, so take it from her and bring it to me.” So we went out, and we were fighting each other. We rode on until we came to Al-Rawdah, and suddenly we were with the woman and we said, “Take out the book.” She said, “I have no book with me.” So we said, “You should take the book out.” The book or to throw clothes. With it I am a relative of mine, and I did not do that out of disbelief, nor apostasy from my religion, nor as I consented to disbelief after Islam. So the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, said, “He has spoken the truth.” Then Omar bin Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, said: Let me, O Messenger of God, cut off the head of this hypocrite. Then the Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “He is He witnessed Badr, so how do you know?
