Qutaibah narrated to us, Sufyan bin Uyaynah narrated to us, on the authority of Al-Zuhri, on the authority of Abu Idris Al-Khawlani, on the authority of Ubadah bin Al-Samit, he said, “We were at The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, was in a gathering and said, “You pledge allegiance to me on the condition that you will not associate anything with God, nor steal, nor commit adultery.” He read about them. Verse: So whoever of you is faithful, his reward is with Allah, and whoever is afflicted with any of that and is punished for it, it will be an expiation for him. And whoever is afflicted with any of that So God will cover him for him, so he is to God, if He wills, He will punish him, and if He wills, He will forgive him.” He said, and in the chapter on the authority of Ali and Jarir bin Abdullah And Khuzaymah ibn Thabit. Abu Issa said the hadith of Ubadah ibn al-Samit is a hasan and authentic hadith. Al-Shafi’i said, “I have not heard anything on this subject.” That the punishments are an expiation for those who do them is something better than this hadith. Al-Shafi’i said: “And it is more beloved for the one who commits a sin that God will cover him.” He must cover himself and repent in what is between him and his Lord. Likewise, it was narrated on the authority of Abu Bakr and Omar that they ordered a man to He hides himself
